Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell confers a Doctor of Engineering on Professor Kevin Edge

On 8 September, our former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kevin Edge, was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering in recognition of his service to the University and his outstanding leadership.

The honorary degree was conferred during the Bath/American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Symposium on Fluid Power & Motion Control, an annual event which he organised for 15 years.

Professor Edge first joined the University as an undergraduate student in 1967.  He was Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for 6 years from 1997, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research from 2003, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 2008 until his retirement last year.

In her opening speech, the Vice-Chancellor noted that given Professor Edge’s association, with the University was entering its 50th year, it seemed entirely fitting he should receive this honour as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.
