As the University prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the grant of its Royal Charter, there can be no better time to reflect upon past achievements and to contemplate future challenges. This lecture traces a personal view of the (pre-)history of the University to the present, and reflects on what the future might hold.

Speaker:

Dr Steve Wharton is Senior Lecturer in French and Communication in the University’s Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies, and has worked at Bath for half of the University’s chartered lifetime. His research examines contemporary French history, politics and society, and he was made Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Government in 2012 for services to French culture.
